Major challenges in designing more paths to walk by on the province of Santiago de Cuba has this year the repair company Equipment and Maintenance (MARVI), located in the historic town of Segundo Frente after challenge in 2015, a full repair of more than a dozen suspension bridges in the abrupt Sierra Cristal.

Osmani Rosales Torres, director of the institution -only of its kind in the territory santiaguero- stressed that for this time they will have modern equipment, which will enable the group to undertake larger roadworks in any region of the province of Santiago de Cuba.

However, they will continue providing subsistence to hanging bridges in Segundo Frente, existing since the 1970s, saying many of its inhabitants who have gray hair. In total are 12 and except Popular Councils of Concepcion, Soledad and Tumba Siete do not have this type of accessory, which are subject by cables or parts from a solidly fixed braced structure.

The length of these suspension bridges, is between 50 and 80 meters long and an average height of five to six meters, said Osmani Rosales Torres.

Tells Osmani, which since ancient times these types of bridges have been used by mankind to overcome obstacles. Over the centuries, and with the introduction and improvement of various building materials, this bridge prototype can now support up to automotive or railway traffic.
Such were the cases of the designed and put into operation in 1970, to the itinerary of motor vehicles in Arroyo Seco, in Mayarí Abajo, and the Ñongo Beco in the popular San Benito council.
In the municipality of Segundo Frente, dominates pedestrian bridges, one of the most known variants, is the one with a catenary formed by numerous steel cables, which the board of wood or metal bridge suspended by vertical braces. Catenary hangs from two towers of sufficient height, that save own obstacles in mountainous areas.

The areas of Mícara, Mayari Arriba, La Yamagua, Loma Blanca, Taita Pancho, El Arpon, El Manzano and La Cabaña ... are examples of suspension bridges, without being as famous as the Golden Gate Brigde in San Francisco, California or which it is stretched over the Yangtze in China, benefiting long coming and going for about 70% of the mountain people of this intricate city.
Last year, says Osmani Rosales, recover discarded metal structure of the nickel industry in Moa, a total of four pedestrian suspension bridges in the town, as well as rehabilitate one Siboney, in the city of Santiago de Cuba and one in La Cuchilla Arroyo Seco.
For 2016 we aim to restore five pendants and take the alternative of building a dozen rigid bridges, we commented Michael Rodriguez Bernabé, deputy technical director of the company, adding they are very effective and contribute significantly to the transfer of people to flood the rivers in this mountainous area.
