The 500th anniversary of the town of Santiago de Cuba stands as motivation behind the construction and preservation of the territory development. In this regard the Office of the Curator of the City, plays a key role in achieving these goals.
The mission of the cultural institution aimed at organizing the efforts of the various entities involved in the revitalization of the city, responding to the conservation of Santiago tangible and intangible heritage, which in turn ensures the urban and economic development of the territory.
In Conversations with the architect Omar Lopez Rodriguez, Curator of the City of Santiago de Cuba, he set out the actions performed by the Office.
Nearly three months after the 500 anniversary of our city how evolve the Curator's Office projects?
It has carried out what we call the dynamic process of conservation of a historic town. Always motivated to progress will be sought to take the city for the better, because the process of conservation of the city is a dynamic process over time; It is the aspiration that has the city master plan.
How has this process being materialized?
For example, we have the Paseo Maritimo an area with boardwalk and several public parks, but does not mean it's over it is a process that we set to culminate in a maximum of four years because it includes other buildings. Currently he is working on continuity actions.
In this project we have been working for several years, trying to be the backbone of the historic center. We intend Enramadas street from Plaza de Marte to the seafront, meeting point between the city and the sea, is the focus of this link. A pedestrian street where families walk, appreciate traditional architecture Santiago, have their public space; that is, a space that tribute to social welfare.
What about the most recent projects?
We have our more recent works such as the Garden of the Holy Spirit, a space dedicated to the sale of ornamental plants and other garden accessories. We are also working on Snack popular café in the Park Swings and the Art Deco; the latter, a large warehouse where we will have 80 self-employed selling their commercial productions. We could also mention the Intelligent Building, a place linked to the area of computing, something like a cafe, whose construction is well underway.
