Caribbean Climate Modeling Group Meets in Havana

Havana, Jul 10 (Prensa Latina) A meeting by the Caribbean Climate Modeling Group analyzed in this capital a new five-year work plan to respond to today''s new scientific challenges in the region facing the current climate change.
The Caribbean meeting took place in parallel to the Congress on Climate Change, which takes place in the framework of the 10th International Convention on Environment and Development at the Conference Center in Havana.

The event also discussed the identification of funding sources to support the scientific development and tasks, and some tasks were distributed among the members of the working group, Dr. Abel Centella, director of the Institute of Meteorology of Cuba, told Prensa Latina.

The group is also comprised by the Climate Change Center of the Caribbean Community, representatives of the University of the West Indies, in Jamaica and Barbados, the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of the Caribbean, as well as universities of Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, among others.

The Caribbean Climate Modeling Group is working in coordination with the science of climate change to try to provide the region a lot of information about this important issue based on scientific results, Dr. Centella said. The previous meeting took place in Barbados in 2014.
