Raul Castro Leads Traditional March to Honor Jose Marti

raul antorchasHavana, Jan 28 (Prensa Latina) President Raul Castro led the traditional march of the torches carried out by the Cuban youth each year to honor National Hero, Jose Marti.
Presidents Jose Mujica (Uruguay), and Leonel Fernandez (Dominican Republic), who attended the Second International Conference "With All and For the Good of All," participated in the parade held yesterday night, along with to the president of the island.

Thousands of young Cubans descended the stairs of the University of Havana carrying a lit torch to celebrate the 163rd birthday of Marti, a march that has been reenacted since 1953, year of the centenary of his birth and led up that time by Fidel Castro.

During the preamble to the known here as the march of the torches, the president of the University Students Federation, Jennifer Bello, said Cubaâ�Ös youth has today the challenge to think and act accordingly, and to keep up with the times we live in the island.

She reaffirmed the commitment of preserving the conquest of the Revolution and socialism.

Along with members of the Cuban brigades of solidarity with Cuba, participants in the march walked from many of the main streets of this capital to the Fragua Martiana (Museum of Martiâ�Ös forge), a place where the stone quarries where Marti served condemnation of forced labor with only 16 years, were located.

Argentine student, Tiago Sabatos, told reporters to feel excited to participate of the history of Cuba, which he considered very positive for the group of solidarity he is a part.

Also, the Brazilian brigade mostly visits the Caribbean country for the first time, and highlighted their excitement for being part of this historic march, while stressed the hope that this nation represents for Latin America.
