International Event in Cuba Ratifies Validity of José Marti's Ideas

Havana, Jan 29 (Prensa Latina) The Second International Conference "With All and for the Good of All" gathered here intellectuals from 51 countries, who -convened in the light of the lucid Marti's thought- analyzed the challenges and problems of today's world.
During the closing ceremony held at the International Conference Center in Havana, the World Council of the Jose Marti Project for International Solidarity urged governments, parliamentarians, civil society, and community as a whole to face urgently the big problems of our time.

All that, being aware, for the first time in history, that we can reach points of no return, especially in social and environmental matters that would irreversibly affect the habitability of Earth, the president of the Culture Foundation for Peace, Federico Mayor, said while reading the message.

Humanity cannot or should not continue unmoved facing excessive investments in arms and military expenditure, and the paradox that we do not have the necessary resources to fight hunger, poverty, exclusion and ignorance of the most part of the world population, the statement warns.

Facing that situation, the text reflects the urgency to change the course of events and develop democratic multilateralism, and stresses that the profoundly Jose Marti's humanistic legacy -based on dignity and human solidarity- acquires under the current circumstances a validity and special meaning.

Additionally, the Network of intellectuals, artists and social movements "In defense of humanity" attending the event made a call to counteract the current neoliberal offensive in Latin America and the Caribbean, and expressed support to the progressive forces in the region.

Prior to the closing ceremony, Senator and former Uruguayan President, Jose Mujica, gave a keynote speech, where he called for the progressive forces of the world to fight for hope and cultivate the confidence of the peoples, submitted by an enslaving culture of waste.

The delivery ceremony of the Jose Marti International Prize by UNESCO 2016 to Mexican doctor and prominent follower of Marti's thinking, Alfonso Herrera Franyutti, who was chosen for his continuous contribution to the promotion of peace, solidarity and human rights between nations of Latin America and the Caribbean, was also a special moment.

Another of the renowned activities was the holding of the Special Meeting of the World Council of the Jose Marti Project for International Solidarity, as well as the delivery of master lectures, meetings of committees and panels of experts, who discussed from a Marti's point of view the challenges of the present situation.

Under the guidance of the lucid ideas by Cuban revolutionary hero, Jose Marti (1853-1895), this International Conference was proposed to contribute to the formation of thought and action that allow confronting the many complex problems of the 21st century.
