Havana, Feb 4 (Prensa Latina) Specialists in pediatrics at Children''s Hospital Colorado, United States, will arrive in Cuba today, to exchange experiences with local physicians in areas of newborn care.
The delegation is led by Dr. Stephen Berman, of the University of Colorado, and Dr. James Perrin, of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University, both former presidents of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The 13 U.S. doctors who will visit Havana will share with the island's pediatricians about chronic health conditions among children, and the development of early childhood, according to a statement issued by the institution in Colorado.

They will also assess together the advances in the early brain development, as well as new approaches in promoting responsive parenting, while Cuban pediatricians will discuss the success in decreasing the incidence of premature births.

"We hope to start a real collaboration, while we establish alliances between both -Cuba and the United States- to improve the health of children in our countries," Dr. Berman told U.S. media.

The visit to Cuba is sponsored by the Cuban Pediatric Society (CPS), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Children's Hospital Colorado, and the Center for Global Health at the Colorado School of Public Health at CU, Anschutz.

The American doctors are intended to hear the Cuban experiences in progress to improve child health during more than 50 years of isolation imposed by the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington on Cuba.
