Cuba Hosts 7th Intercontinental Convention on Psychology

hominis2016Havana, May 11 (Prensa Latina) The role of psychology to solve social problems captured the interest here today of 1,200 delegates from several countries who are attending the Seventh Intercontinental Convention of that specialty.

Sponsored by the Cuban Society of Psychology and the American Psychological Association, among others, delegates from Mexico, Brazil, Puerto Rico, the United States, Colombia, Spain, Argentina, Chile and Cuba, among those greater representation, are attending Hominis 2016, as the meeting is also called.

One of the objectives of the meeting is to visualize the results of work by Cuban specialists, the president of the organizing committee, Alexis Lorenzo, said.

The academic program covers several topics including applied psychologies: addictions, health, education, culture, sports, communities, organizations, communications, social institutions, disasters and psychological theories and their relationship to other sciences.

During the event, about 26 sub-events will be taken place, including international symposia on psychology and special educational needs; addictive, clinical and health; research on sexuality; subjectivity and aging behaviors.

Another significant issue will be the International day of psychology in emergencies and disasters. This will be focused on international aid and Cuba's contribution to the victims and survivors of the recent quake in Ecuador.

Under the slogan "Psychology as enhancing human welfare, Hominis 2016 is also organized by UNESCO, the Union of Latin American Psychology Entities (ULAPSI), and the Association of National Society of Psychology in the Caribbean.
