Geneva, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) Cuba denounced here today the dilatory maneuvers by some western countries to prevent the progress in fighting racism and discrimination.
Cuban diplomat Claudia Perez remarked that some western nations are opposed to the efforts by southern countries, aimed at fighting racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.

The diplomat said this statement after addressing the Ad Hoc Committee of the UN Human Rights Council, to establish complementary rules to strengthen the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, to be concluded tomorrow in this Swiss city.

Due to the dilatory maneuvers by western countries, such Committee cannot go ahead in fulfilling its mandate to start negotiating an optional protocol of the International Convention, for the sake of making progress on this issue, Perez said.

She also reaffirmed Cuba's commitment in fighting racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance.
