Cuba, China to Sign Biotechnology Agreement

cuba china bioHavana, Feb 19 (Prensa Latina) The Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries Group of Cuba (Biocubafarma) and the Yongzhou Economic Development Zone in the Chinese province of Hunan signed a biotechnology sector agreement, according to the media Tuesday.

The signing, result of the close collaboration between China and Cuba, was realized between BioCubaFarma's president, Eduardo Martinez, and the Economic Development Zone Vice President in Yongzhou municipality, Liao Weihua.

The officials from both nations signed the general bases for the establishment of a Center for Research and Development of Innovative Biotechnological Products, in this important area of technological development and industrial park of China.

The ceremony was also attended by the ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Cuba, Chen Xi, and the Deputy Mayor of the municipality of Yongzhou, Xie Jinglin. On the Cuban side, executives from Biocubafarma and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) attended.
