Cuban Women's Congress Closes in Havana

Havana, Mar 8 (Prensa Latina) The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Raul Castro, and President Miguel Diaz-Canel attended today the closing day of the 10th Congress of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), a forum that brought together more than 350 delegates.

At the Havana Convention Center, participants are scheduled to elect the new secretariat and the national committee of the organization, which brings together more than four million women, is planned.

Participants worked on Wednesday in four commissions with topics such as gender equality, social work, contribution of women to socio-economic development and the role of young women to ensure the continuity of the revolution.

Speaking at the event, FMC Secretary General Teresa Amarelle highlighted the role of Cuban women as defenders of the revolutionary process and called for increased action to call even more new generations to join the organization.

During the conference, participants from different provinces and sectors of the country condemned the hardening by the United States of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for almost six decades, in particular with the threat of fully applying Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, an initiative that seeks to change the regime and scare off foreign investment.

They also demanded an end to Washington's interference in Venezuela's internal affairs and its crusade to overthrow the Bolivarian Revolution.
