Cuba Promotes Excursions to its Highest Mountain Peak

irasemaHavana, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) Tour operator Cubamar offers today excursions once a month to the highest mountain, Pico Turquino, in eastern Cuba, both for local and foreign tourists.
Cubamar Director, Irasema Arredondo, said the objective is to make it easy for youngsters to know the country's nature and history through trips at affordable prices arranged by Cubamar offices countrywide.

She said that for the time being, this excursion will occur once a month, leaving from Havana on a bus, with stops and other supplies needed for the ascent guaranteed (this trip is also arranged by the Ecotur agency).

The Turquino Royal Peak is the highest mountain in Cuba, 1,974 mt above the sea, with an environment that shocks the traveller because of its wildlife and the traditions of the mule drivers and peasants in the area.

The tickets for this excursion are already on sale with a first ascent scheduled for Sep. 24-28.

Cubamar, with information available on the website www.marviajes.cu, was founded on June 8, this year, and has 14 offices countrywide thar sale tickets for 96 camp sites, including four devoted solely to foreigners.
