Toronto, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) Cuban javelin thrower Yulenmis Aguilar today celebrates her 19th birthday with the world junior record, after a throw of 63.86 meters that guaranteed the Pan American U-20 crown and the Olympic ticket to Rio de Janeiro-2016.
The Cuban athlete, silver medal in the world cadet in 2013, was sixth in 17th Pan American Games in Toronto 2015, and managed to surpass the record of 63.01, set by the Ukrainian Vira Rebryk in July 2008.
'When I threw the javelin I knew I had a great shot of over 60 meters, but never thought it would be a world record," confessed the athlete whose best time was 59.18.
Cuba has a rich tradition in the javelin, specifically in women with the Olympic champions Maria Caridad Colon and Osleidys Menendez.
