Havana, Aug 9 (Prensa Latina) The Carlos Juan Finlay Microbiology Award by the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) will be awarded in Cuba in December this year, as announced in this capital.

UNESCO awards with this distinction the people who have excelled or stimulated people or institutions, working with a wide outstand in the fields of the investigations in Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Genetics and others.

This year,the Cuban Commission for UNESCO prepared activities for the centennial of the death of the eminent scientist on the island, Carlos JUan Finlay, said to Prensa Latina in Havana Alicia González, general secretary.

A representation of the national scientific community made a pilgrimage to the tomb of Finlay in the Necropolis of Colon, Havana, where they laid a wreath in memory of the prominent physician, who died in Havana on August 20, 1915.

Finlay decades ahead in the scientific development of its time in 1881 when he established the theory metaxénica spread of disease and enunciated a new mode of disease transmission through an intermediate biological agent that spreads a condition of a sick person to a healthy one.
