Cuba Progresses in Study of Vaccine Therapy for Prostate Cancer

Havana, Aug 17 (Prensa Latina) The Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) in the eastern Cuban province of Camagüey is making progresses with broad prospects in clinical trials of a vaccine therapy to treat prostate cancer.
The specialists of the referred scientific-productive institution, located about 530 kilometers east of Havana, in addition to make incursions in the biomedical sphere, its main mission is the generation of medicines for use in the agricultural industry in fighting plagues and diseases, Granma newspaper reported today.
The center, founded in July 1989 by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, has also two vaccines in several stages of development to treat rabbit haemorrhagic fever and classical swine fever.
During 2014, the CIGB in Camagüey has had a favorable productive and business research management, with foreign sales valued at six million USD, the newspaper stated.
This entity accumulates in its 26 years of work significant contributions in research, technological development projects and productive accomplishments of high added value.
Many of its products managed to close the cycle of research, development, production and marketing, including the recombinant vaccine for controlling tick in Gavac cattle and ecological bionematicide Hebernem, lines in which the international prestige of the Cuban biotechnology is strengthened.
