Cuba's Historic Constitution to Be Registered at UNESCO Record

constitucion cubaHavana, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) The Jimaguayu Constitution, which established legal norms during the independence war in Cuba started in 1895, will be registered in UNESCO's Memory Program of the World Register, media stressed today.
The Cuban National Archives will receive on Monday, Sept. 14, the certificate of registration in such register, Granma newspaper posted in its website.

The general director of the center, Marta Ferriol, said the ceremony will take place at the institution, where the original text of that constitution that provided the Republic in Arms of the government to lead the war for the islandâ�Ös independence, is preserved.

According to the program schedule for the delivery, the president of the National Memory of the of the World Committee at (UNESCO) United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Nuria Gregori, will attend the event, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the National Heritage Council.

This UNESCO program emerged with the aim of facilitating the universal access to the documentary heritage, preserve and increase global awareness on the existence and the significance of the documentary heritage.

The Jimaguayu Constitution, named after the town where it was approved in the province of Camaguey, would be in force in Cuba for two years, it established a centralized government, which united the legislative and executive powers in one body.
