Namibian President Concludes Visit to Cuba

hage heingobHavana, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) President of Namibia, Hage Gottfried Geingob, concludes today an official visit to Cuba, during which he met with his Cuban peer, Raul Castro, and toured places of economic interest to strengthen ties between both countries.
The leaders of Cuba and Namibia had a fraternal meeting in which they noted the excellent state of bilateral relations and reiterated their willingness to strengthen them, in line with historical ties between the two nations.

They also discussed other issues of common interest of the international and regional agenda, said a statement released here.

As part of his program, Gottfried Geingob toured the Center for State Control of the Quality of Medicines (Cecmed, in Spanish), which is the drug regulatory authority of the island.

The visitor received information about the capabilities and achievements of the scientific institution, as well as the prospects for cooperation.

Our delegation is highly impressed by the high-tech facility that we have seen, keep up the good work, said the president when describing Cuba as an excellent example in the world in terms of its health system.

In this regard he stated that there is much to learn from the Cuban health system and in that sense recalled that his country, in the framework of this visit, has requested assistance in this sector from the island, in order to remove some of the obstacles that Namibia has in the field of health.

In addition, the Cuban Health Minister Roberto Morales said in statements to the press Cuba's willingness to expand cooperation with Namibia.

Morales informed about the signing of "an interministerial agreement to give continuity to this cooperative work we have been developing and he also referred to the evaluation of other collaborations in the field of human resources training either post or undergraduate in line with the needs of that African country. "

Cuba and Namibia established diplomatic relations on March 21, 1990 and maintain important bilateral relations in the political sphere and cooperation in the sectors of economy, trade, education, health, culture, sport and construction.

The African nation supports the struggle of the Cuban people for ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US against Cuba.
