Cuba, Algeria Agree Cooperation in Water Resources

Havana, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuba and Algeria signed today several agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the scientific-technical field, training and establishment of economic associations.
Ines Chapman, president of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH), and Abdelouahab Nouri, Algerian Minister of Water Resources and Environment, signed a memorandum of understanding, expressing their interest to collaborate in fighting flooding and protection of cities and sustainable management.
A framework agreement between the Cubahidraulica company, of INRH, and the National Agency of Dams and Water Transfers, of that Algerian ministry, for the provision of services by the Cuban staff in that country, was also signed in the ceremony.
Algeria and Cuba are facing the same challenges and they are affected by droughts, floodings and other events exacerbated by climate change that damages infrastructure in the sphere, said Nouri.
He said his country is moving water, surface and groundwater resources, and those coming from desalination, so that the population has drinking water with quality, and above all satisfy the needs of that resource food security demands.
The two nations have experience and knowledge, and can share and complement themselves, he said.
