Women''s Right to Justice Should Be Respected

Havana, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) The delegates of the 16th Meeting of Female Judges from Ibero-America called for redoubled efforts to ensure that women everywhere obtain greater access to justice.
On the second day, the Mexican female judge Adela Alicia Jimenez asked to pay attention to the costs of judicial processes for women, who have to go a long way until the judgment becomes final.

Jimenez stated that first of all women had to stop working and paying for transportation, food and lawyers, which means a huge expense.

She also explained that there were some deep-seated problems in Ibero-America such as the violence against women, that brings economical, physical, social, emotional and psychological costs.

She also regretted that many women, who are afraid of their husband's reaction to the complaint, were ignorant of the laws and immersed in the culture of submissiveness.

The meeting is sponsored by the People's Supreme Court of Cuba, the Cuban Women's Federation and the National Union of Cuban Jurists.
