FARC-EP Denounce Stance of Gov''t to Slow Down Peace Process

timoleon66Havana, Nov 17 (Prensa Latina) FARC-EP expressed today its willingness to advance in the talks for peace in Colombia, taking place here, after denouncing that the government of President Juan Manuel Marquez tends to complicate the progress of the process.
In a statement released in this capital, the top leader of the Central Staff of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP), Timoleon Jimenez, expressed his concern about the slow motion in the progress of the peace talks, due to the stance by the Executive after the signing of agreement on justice between the two sides.

In the text, the guerrilla leader stressed the great importance of the agreement signed on Sept. 23, but criticized that after that historic event, "deferrals, excuses and apologies by the government became common for not complying with the cycles and sessions that were agreed".

It suddenly resulted that the agreement on justice could not be considered closed, the only official thing was a statement saying it needed to review a series of issues contained in it, Jimenez criticized.

Barely two months after the ceremony in which the agreement was announced, its final closure remains impossible. And not because the FARC-EP have known a single letter of what was approved, said the insurgent leader.

We are concerned today that a certain purpose to slow down prospers on the government side, to complicate the progress in the agreements. The slow pace set by the Bureau and the Subcommittees rise some issues that make them think, Jimenez said.

Given this context, the guerrilla leader reaffirmed that the negotiation table is and should remain the ideal place to discuss and reach agreements, because none of the party has the right to conceive it as a mechanism to surrender the other side, he said.
