Bogota, Apr 25 (Prensa Latina) Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos stated today that the avalanches earlier this month left 328 dead in Mocoa, including more than 100 minors and 69 missing others.
When making a summary of the work to restore that city, capital of the southern department of Putumayo, the president thanked the foreign and national assistance which contributed about 30,500 million pesos, about $30 million USD, to help thousands of victims, he said.
There will be no doubt about the correct use of these financial resources, pointed out the governor who asked the monitoring bodies to monitor the course of such funds.
The devastating landslides on April 1 ravaged this territory by dragging bridges, houses, trees and everything they found in their path.
According to Santos, there is a group of companies interested in developing investment projects in Mocoa, which will help restore this area belonging to the Amazon.
In total 17 villagers lost their lives during the landslides that took place the previous week in that city, known as the City of the open doors.
Previously the tenant of the House of Nariño anticipated that mayorships and governorates will have an additional budget to protect citizens from natural events.
The sum devoted for that purpose is around $200 million USD.
