Havana, May 1 (Prensa Latina) Cubans from all generations today expressed their commitment to the socialist project of the Revolution during the celebrations on the International Workers'' Day.
The main event and the people's parade in Havana, chaired by President Raul Castro, the general secretary of the Cuban Workers' Confederation (CTC), Ulises Guilarte, pointed out that despite the current international situation, Cuba will not renounce its right to social justice, with the strongest conviction and confidence in victory.
'The offensive staged by capitalism and its neoliberal policy has increased challenges for Latin America and the Caribbean,' said Guilarte to thousands of people gathered at the Jose Marti Revolution Square, including more than 1,600 foreign people from 86 countries.
Referring to ties between Cuba and the United States, Guilarte noted that they can be developed on the basis of respect for differences and the promotion of everything that benefits both countries and peoples, but Cuba should not be expected to make concessions regarding its independence and sovereignty.
He also called for an end of the economic, financial and commercial blockade Washington has imposed on Cuba for more than 50 years, as well as the return of the territory illegally occupied by the U.S. naval base in Guantanamo.
Guilarte also reiterated Cuba's unconditional support and solidarity for the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela, given the offensive triggered by the right wing in that country, and condemned political manipulations and diplomatic harassment to which Nicolas Maduro' s management has been subjected.
Fidel Castro, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution and the promoter of the process of changes under way in Cuba, who passed away on November 25, was honored on this date.
