Havana, Nov 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel recalled Fiday the November 30, 1956 uprising in the east of the country against the dictatorship, an action organized in support of the Granma yacht landing. On that day, young people from the 26th of July Movement, led by Frank Pais, carried out armed actions aimed at guaranteeing the safe arrival of the yacht, headed by Fidel Castro, to bring 82 revolutionaries from Mexico.
The Santiago de Cuba population helped the revolutionaries in many ways, from providing hiding places to caring for the wounded and information on military activities.
Although the city was completely paralyzed and the dictatorship's army and police had to mobilize in response to the uprising, inclement weather impeded Granma's arrival, which took place on December 2.
