Regarding the demands of the Mapuche people, 71 percent of those consulted support the return to the communities of the historic territories and to achieve greater autonomy in the administration of their territory.
About 69 out of every 100 approve that the Special Forces of Carabineers withdraw from the Mapuche territory and that the representation of the Mapuche people in the Legislative Power is assured.
However, the hope that the problem between the Chilean State and the Mapuche communities will be solved is very low, since 63 percent consider it unlikely or very unlikely.
Another issue in which young people are very critical is related to the numerous scandals of sexual abuse within the Chilean Church uncovered throughout the year, and in this regard, the survey leaves no doubt because 86 percent said they had little or no trust in the Church, although a third of those consulted identify with Catholicism.
At the same time, 85 percent consider the performance of the Catholic hierarchy in the country to be deficient in the allegations of sexual abuse and 65 percent do not trust the measures taken by the ecclesiastical headquarters will end the excesses of the priests.
On the issue of migration, which occupies much of the agenda of the government of Sebastian Piñera to 'put order' in the country, young people positively appreciate the entry of foreigners, as 43 percent believe that they do not influence the increase in crime, while 46 percent think that immigrants contribute to national culture and 42 percent consider they contribute to the promotion of the economy.
In these three sections, only 26 percent say that foreigners influence the increase in crime, 24 out of 100 understand that they do not contribute to the culture and 22 percent think it is a problem for the economy.
But in contrast to these opinions, 40 percent of the young people consulted believe that Chileans are more racist than young people from other South American countries; 36 percent believe that Chileans are just as racist and only 20 out of every hundred, that racism in this country is lower than in other nations of the area.
Santiago de Chile, Dec 25 (Prensa Latina) Young people are today one of the most critical sectors of Chilean society before the main events that marked the life of the country in 2018, such as the Mapuche problem, the crisis of the Catholic Church or the migration policy.
