Havana, Mar 6 (Prensa Latina) French-Spanish intellectual Ignacio Ramonet will participate in a theoretical event in Cuba dedicated to reflecting on the founding years of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic), organizers announced Today.

The president of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, Ivan Giroud, assured that the distinguished journalist is not only a friend of Icaic but he also discovered Cuba by watching Cuban movie pictures and chose it as the subject of his Master thesis, and that is the reason for which it seems ideal to speak from his experience on the subject in a day of celebration of the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the Icaic..

As he commented in a press conference, the panel will delve into the prodigious 1960s in Cuban cinema and highlight the influence of Icaic in Cuban contemporary art.

Among the panelists there are also the critic and essayist Graziella Pogolotti and the Cuban filmmaker Rebeca Chavez.

Throughout the year, the Cinemateca de Cuba will offer at its headquarters, on 23rd Street and 12th Street, Vedado, in this capital, a broad retrospective of the work of Icaic in its 60 years.

The institution decided to award the National Film Prize in 2019 to producer Miguel Mendoza, cinematographer Livio Delgado and sound engineer Jerónimo Labrada, who will receive the award on March 22, at the Charles Chaplin Cinema, at the central ceremony for the 650th anniversary of the Icaic.
