Havana, Mar 15 ( Prensa Latina ) Cuba''s president, Miguel Diaz-Canel, called Tuesday to boost sugar production because of its impact on the economy by speaking at a meeting with authorities of the Provincial and Municipal Assemblies of People''s Power.

Diaz-Canel urged to make good use of what remains of the harvest, attend to the workforce by applying the approved wage regulation and analyze in each place the main problems existing to eliminate deficiencies, reported the national TV news in its evening edition.

Aside from the situation of the current sugarcane harvest, the meeting analyzed the state of implementation of the economic and social policy guidelines of the Party and the Revolution.

The president of the implementation and development commission, Marino Murillo, reported on this issue at the meeting, in which the second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, participated.

Murillo referred to the policies approved in the country for the functioning of self-employment, non-agricultural cooperatives and territorial contribution to local development, as well as the demographic dynamics in the nation.

Since Monday, Diaz-Canel presides over meetings with authorities of the Provincial and Municipal Assemblies of People's Power of Cuba with the aim of fostering public policies from local levels.

He insisted that housing policy should be a priority in government management and called for the construction of quality real estate.
