LogoONUUnited Nations, Nov 17 (Prensa Latina) United Nations seeks to reinforce its contingent with 300 troops peacekeepers in Central African Republic, to face the escalation of inter-communal violence and the proximity of elections in that country, a senior official informed today.
In a session of the Security Council to address the situation of that country, the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Hervé Ladsous defended the strengthening of the Stabilization Mission (Minusca), deployed in September 2014 in response to armed actions and acts of revenge between Muslims and Christians.

According to reports here, the Secretary General Ban Ki-moon submitted to the Council a letter with the request to transfer 300 "blue helmets" for a period of eight weeks from Cote d'Ivoire to the Central African Republic, facing the constitutional referendum of December 13 and the presidential and legislative elections on 27.

In recent weeks, the clashes between former rebels Seleka (mostly Muslim) and anti-Balaka militias (animists and Christians) returned to the capital Bangui and other places killing and wounding dozens of people.

The escalation of violence and the holding of the elections, a key event for the country's future, according to Ladsous, explain the relocation of soldiers who would execute quick response tasks of facing threats.

UN expresses concern on this nation since in 2014 thounsands of people were killed and more than a million leave their homes due to the fighting, which continue despite the peace agreement made last May.
