CEN Audits Documents Related to Constitutional Referendum

000escrutinioHavana, Mar 6 (Prensa Latina) The National Electoral Commission (CEN) in Cuba is carrying out an audit until Saturday of the documents used in the February 24 referendum on the new Constitution, authorities quoted in the press reported on Wednesday.

According to Granma newspaper, CEN members and supervisors are in charge of this activity, whose aim is to check the correspondence with the data entered into the computerized system and the way in which the evidence of the election at polls will be archived.

This step was preceded by an internal audit the municipal and provincial electoral commissions developed, to review ballots, models and brochures, the document states.

Nearly eight million Cubans voted on February 24 in the referendum to ratify or not the new Constitution, about 86.8 percent of them opted for Yes, while nine percent voted No.

Among the priorities of the ongoing audit process is to verify the work of the receiving, reviewing and counting information groups, to measure the quality thereof, as well as the effectiveness of these structures.

Brochures of polling stations and districts are also reviewed, to determine the correspondence between what was collected there, with the data entered into the system, voters' lists, inclusion models and the number of voters who voted, authorities said.

Speaking to Prensa Latina about the referendum, CEN member Cecilia Valdes insisted on the priority given in Cuba to the transparency of the elections at polls.

The official highlighted the verification processes the commission is carrying out before and after each election.
