Coastal study center calls a beach cleaning day in Santiago de Cuba

The Center of Multi-disciplinary Study of coastal areas (Cemzoc, in Spanish) of University of Oriente, in this city, called a beach cleaning day through the whole coastal area of the province next Saturday 24th. Institutions such as The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma, in Sapnish), also, called the cleaning work day. This action is intended to join the international campaign Clean Seas.
The campaign was launched by organizations such as UNESCO and Tourism World Organization in order to protect the seas and oceans.
PhD. Alexis Pérez Figueredo, Cemzoc’s specialist, reported to ACN (Cuban News Agency) that students and professors from the university will take part in the event and schools, tourists facilities, the community, among others will join them as well.
The foreseen actions include the collect of plastic, solid and organic wastes, glass and aluminum that will be classified and send to community services facilities. These last mentioned are in charge of the evaluation of the products.
This event will take place at La Estrella, Barrio Técnico, Siboney, Cazonal y Chivirico areas.
Cemzoc, 12 years old, has the task to research and built capacities on the coastal eco-system with scientific competence and experienced professionals that contribute to effective decision making in order to warrant a sustainable development.
The territorial order and integrated management of hydro-graphic basins and coastal areas, the climate change, natural disasters and integrated management of risks are the main work guidelines of this institution.
