It was running the 60's of last century and in the premises located in Heredia Street, between San Pedro and San Felix,when guitar and verse joined the voices of singers like Angel City Almenares and Ramon Marquez, who along with Virgilio Palais, owner of the place, starred the most heartfelt and emotional troubadour downloads.
According to the time in the cafeteria of Virgilio were sold tobaco, rum and cigarettes and was the site of confluence of humble men of Santiago de Cuba. Scholars and Cuban music historians say that Virgilio had an excellent second voice.
From this seed germinate the idea that in 1968 Duque de Estrada, who was head of the private owners, would actually with the delivery of key local Calixto Cardona, Regional Director of Culture at the time. And so the July 28, 1968's unveils what is now the Casa de la Trova in Santiago, the oldest in Cuba.
Among the founders are Miguel Angel Justiz, Angel Almenares, Virgilio Palais, Ramón Márquez and Daniel Castillo, among others.
Since then this site is for lovers of trova. People come here from all over the world to enjoy authentic Cuban traditional music.
Today the Casa de la Trova "Pepe Sanchez" is not that little old place where bohemian lovers gathered song; today by the founding small lounge serve other local stage to musicians from Santiago to present their proposals to the public.
