The staff of Julio Antonio Mella sugar mill (former Miranda sugar mill) is involved in maintenance and repairing works of some areas of the facility that will work in the upcoming harvest.

This sugar mill from the northern part of Santiago province has traditionally been the biggest producer of fine sugar in the eastern part of the Island. This reason and the 102 anniversary of the former Miranda Sugar Mill have made the staff to work harder on the facility.

According to Belkis Arias Brown, chief of the production department of the mill, repair works are over 90% done and today some repairing and maintenance works are been carried out in the unloading area and the mill with toggle.

One of the major investments is carried out in the boilers in order to boost energy efficiency and achieve energy self-sufficiency.

José Ángel La Rosa, chief of the steam generation department, said that the repair actions on the boiler No.3 is due to the great deterioration it has and the repair will allow the 55 steam tons it should deliver when in actual time it only delivers 15 tons.

Miss Arias said “We are slightly behind schedule because of some issues with resources supply and some technical setbacks such as the crane failure”, however the achievement of these goals will make shorter the sugar process period and will save energy as well.

The specialist explained to the press that the sugar production area benefits with the current actions that are been taken place in the cooler. The fine sugar production was qualified as successful by the directive board. A success, translated as sugar supply for the family basket in the eastern area.
