November, the penultimate month of the current year is a decisive period to meet efficiently and with quality the plan set for the coffee harvest in Santiago de Cuba, the greatest producer of the grain in the country. The province intends to collect the ambitious number of 4 198 tons of the important exportable good.
Recent rains have speed up the maturity of the grain in the plantations, mainly in mountains of 2nd and 3rd Frente where an average of over 10 000 Cuban-collect units of coffee measurement in the fields.
3rd Frente the greatest coffee collector in the island, with a plan of 1255 tons of coffee, moves forward to achieve the 75% of that plan, while 2nd Frente foresees the meeting of the plan (800 tons) with almost 70% of the plan already collected.
San Luis municipality, in this harvest, will provide 430 tons, that is, a growth of the plan in 20 %, mainly Arabic coffee (exportable good). This is a positive step to meet the strategy of Coffee development until 2020 where an increase of the Arabic grain is established. In the territory, the critical condition of roads has required a special treatment in order to solve the isolation of coffee areas.
The quality parameters of the grain is faced with exigency and strict control in this harvest, if we take into account this indicator has not been the best recorded in the recent years, although, producers are being paid more.
Producers are aware that the remaining days are decisive to meet the plan set, so they redouble efforts to honor the 61th anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban revolution next January 1st.
