Santiago de Cuba, June 3. The Heredia Street runs from Peralejo to Portuondo Street. Today appears before locals and foreigners in a full resuscitation for the 500 years of the town.
Hortensia Estrada architect specialist of the Master Plan in the Office of the Curator of the City, says about it:
"Marked by its centrality, Heredia street contains valuable examples of architecture and urbanism. Among the Calvario and Corona streets are placed emblematic and historic buildings, which have hosted important activities and cultural practices as the birthplace of José María Heredia, the Casa de la Trova, Casa de la Cultura Josue Pais Garcia, the Cuban Association craftsmen-artists and the ARTEX and Paradiso headquarters.
"We also found the Carnival Museum, the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, the Cultural Fund with its shops, Elvira Cape Provincial Library, Business of Music Miguel Matamoros, the Cathedral, the Office of the Curator of the city, and is linked to Céspedes park.
"The goal of the current project is to consolidate that location, for which is being working in urban revival, that involves each of the facilities and institutions. We worked in what was the Student House, now House of Culture, and in the attached gallery, the Music Center at the headquarters of ARTEX. We are now immersed in Paradiso, a cultural agency linked to international tourism.
Regarding the rehabilitation of other buildings adds Hortensia:
"The restoration of the cathedral is well known, but there is a work that the city waited long and less disclosed, the House of Cheese. This is a residential building with soaring equity, it is the only corner with two colonial balconies and downstairs acquire cultural functions.
"In Corona street corner Heredia, there is the former home of Carlos Dranguet, which presents a new dynamic restoration. It took closed a long time and will be the Heritage Coffe Interpretation Center, linked to the project "On the paths of coffee".
Urban revival also includes treatment of facades, a study of suitable colors and signs of identity facilities plus resurfacing, carpentry and sidewalks, street furniture incorporating if necessary as bins, etc. Also, an assessment of the schedules will be made to improve services. According to the interviewee, not all buildings come into the plan because they do not need or do not reach the budget.
