Ban Ki-moon Expresses Interest in Participating in NAM Summit

jorge valero y ban ki moonGeneva, Jan 20 (Prensa Latina) UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, expressed his interest in visiting Venezuela in July this year, when the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) takes place.
During a meeting in this Swiss city with Venezuela's permanent representative to UN Geneva, Jorge Valero, he stressed that the visit would provide the opportunity to talk with President Nicolás Maduro and other heads of state attending the event.

At this summit, the South American country will assume the presidency of this important group.

Ban, who is in Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum that starts today in Davos, congratulated the Venezuela government for its re-election to the Human Rights Council of the UN.

On the other hand, Valero remarked 'the firm commitment of the Bolivarian Revolution led by President Nicolás Maduro, with the validity of the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter'.

The Bolivarian government is fond of peace and is committed to justice and international law, he highlighted.

Venezuela is an ally to further promote friendly relations among nations based on respect for sovereignty, equality, solidarity, self-determination of peoples, and respect for human rights in the world, the diplomat added.

He also said that in its annual message to the National Assembly on January 15, Maduro proposed the creation of a National Commission for Justice, Truth and Peace, to establish the legal basis to move towards a process of peace with justice in the country, refers a note released by the UN Mission of Venezuela in Geneva.
