Work Causing Damage to Mexican Mangrove Suspended

mexico danos manglarMexico, Jan 28 (Prensa Latina) An provision suspension was granted by the Fourth District Court to prevent disassemble or any work on the Malecon Tajamar, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, for activities affecting mangroves, it was known today.
This is the second one granted and the third recourse available under a federal court since last January 16, when the environment is altered due to the cutting of mangroves to conduct a real estate development project.

Even the entrance of heavy machinery to the place is prohibited as a result of this new provisional suspension, promoted by a minor, represented by the father, who held tp the right to grow up in a healthy environment, the local media highlight.

According to experts, in this type of ecosystem the birds nest and various species reproduce, including those endangered.

The felling of 22 hectares in the Tajamar lagoon caused a serious environmental damage, assured experts recently.

According to specialists, Mexico has responsibility for the mangrove conservation because, together with six other countries, it owns about 70 percent of this vegetation on the planet.

They note that with the destruction of mangrove in Tajamar, the ecosystem weakens and is vulnerable to increasingly frequent natural phenomena.

Also, lawmakers of the country and environmental groups claim the facts to be clarified.

Experts on the subject say this ecological devastation is incongruous when in December is planned in Cancun the 13th Conference of the Parties (COP13) of the Convention on Biological Diversity of the United Nations.

Every February 2 the International Wetlands Day is celebrated to raise awareness about the value of these ecosystems for humanity and the planet.
