Panama, Dec 3 (Prensa Latina) About 200 parliamentarians have gathered in Panama today for the 32nd General Assembly of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino), which aims to discuss initiatives to take 34 million people out of poverty.

Topics such as oil price variation, laws on trafficking, energy integration project, health and the labeling of processed food products for the human consumption, will all be discussed.

Legislative proposals on state production of medicines and policies to combat and prevent diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, zika and yellow fever will also be tabled.

During the session of the General Assembly of the Parlatino this Friday, the former president of the Inter-American Development Bank and former Ibero-American Secretary, Enrique Iglesias García, will receive recognition for his outstanding career promoting the socio-economic development of the countries in the region.

Yesterday, the President of the legislative body, Mexican Senator Blanca Alcalá, stressed that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are being integrated into political life in many countries in the region.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union President Saber Chowdhury also stressed the importance of the SDG and said that the views and opinions of all parliaments and legislators around the world enriched the formulation and articulation of these goals.
