Berlin, Jan 20 (Prensa Latina) Germany and Europe in general will be targets of terrorist attacks in the short and medium term, said the president of the German secret services of the interior, Hans-Georg Maassen.
According to him, a month after the mass attack in Berlin, in which 12 people were killed, international radicalism is still considered a serious threat against the so-called old continent.
Maassen, who is also in charge of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), considered Germany to be 'the main focus' of extreme Islamism, which in the past year hit the most prominent countries in Europe.
Among the most relevant conflicts for the intelligence services, Maassen stressed the multiple methods that EI have to terrorize, from fanatics using knives, axes or trucks, to elite commands armed with assault rifles and explosives, among others.
Something to take into account, according to Maassen, is the fact that social networks and other websites become today a very fruitful way to indoctrinate and fanaticize future terrorists, mostly those who are young.
The head of the German secret service referred to the reality that, although there may be suspicions about a person who may be radicalized, not much can be done until they commit an act of terror, as in the case of the Tunisian Anis Amri, alleged author of the aforementioned Berlin bombing.
