London, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) A campaign to raise people''s awareness against posing with wild animals was presented by the World Animal Protection (WAP), an international environmental organization.
The organization urges residents and tourists, especially those visiting the Amazon basin, not to take selfies with wild animal. The tourism industry must know that this practice is often illegal, the WAP said. On the organization's website, the WAP highlights in cooperation with tour operators, that tourists take pictures holding animals and then post them on social networks.
Using wild animals as an accessory in a photo can cause them stress and suffering. The mere fact of using them as an accessory deprives them of freedom and encourages them to have contact with humans, thus making their survival in nature much more difficult, according to specialists.
When referring to the Amazon, where these incidents are frequently occurring, the WAP recalls that this forest is known worldwide for its extraordinary wildlife. For this reason, Amazon has attracted a growing number of tourists interested in taking selfies with cute animals.
This sort of incident causes several animals, including pink dolphins, alligators, snakes and especially sloths to suffer, the WAP said.
