Ramallah, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) German Chancellor Angela Merkel ratified on Tuesday the desire of her country and the European Union (EU) to achieve peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on a two-State solution. According to the source, Abbas received a call from Merkel, who informed him about the results of her recent meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Tel Aviv.
The stateswoman said the fact that the EU has provided considerable financial support to United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), with a view to that entity continues complying with its functions.
The head of the German government also expressed the Palestinian leader her concern for the conditions of the inhabitants in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
Abbas thanked Germany for its economic support for the Palestinian institutional strengthening and UNRWA.
According to the Palestinian Authority, both leaders agreed to maintain communication and coordination during the coming months.
