In the speech to present the work before a Unesco session, Ambassador Sahar Baassiri said that the role of the organization is to protect heritage because it reflects communication between past and present, and suggested the incorporation of the masterpiece of modern architecture designed by Niemeyer in the mid-sixties of the last century.
'Tripoli is one of the oldest cities in the eastern Mediterranean, where you can also see remnants of what was the Mamluk culture as it passed through Lebanon', he said. Those reminiscences of one of the many civilizations arriving in Lebanon, he added, are a vivid expression of the meaning of communication among the cultures of the world.
