Seoul to Keep Sanctions on DPRK, S. Korean Minister Says

Seoul, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) South Korea will keep its unilateral sanctions on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), imposed in 2010, for now, Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon said in Seoul on Thursday.

Speaking at a government audit, Cho told lawmakers that a detailed analysis in that regard has not been made, but as part of the new context of détente between the two Koreas, the sanctions have been more flexible, the news agency Yonhap reported.

Cho's statements came a day after South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha said in Parliament that the Government was weighing the possibility of lifting the sanctions on the DPRK.

Seoul imposed the sanctions on Pyongyang after a military incident in 2010 and it has banned all kind of economic cooperation with the DPRK since then.
