Caracas, Nov. 1 (Prensa L) The Venezuelan government has destroyed 15,634 firearms as part of the procedures of the National Disarmament Law, informed the Minister of Internal Affairs, Justice and Peace, Nestor Reverol. He added that 483,297 munitions and weapons had been destroyed since its beginning in 2003, and that 3,000 were voluntarily handed over.
The Minister pointed out that 52 seizure processes have been carried out throughout the country in 2018.
In this regard, he said that thanks to these mechanisms the country has reduced the incidence of crime by 28.2 percent and kidnappings by 41.
A safe society is not an armed society, a safe society is where people understand that the only ones who should carry firearms are those public security agencies tasked with preserving life and integrity of people' , Reverol said.
He also called on young Venezuelans to join in peace, disarmament and contribute to the work coordinated with public security entities, 'so that together we can dismantle everything which breeds violence in society', he emphasized.
