United Nations, Nov 1 (Prensa Latina) The vote this Thursday at the UN General Assembly on the draft resolution calling for an end to the US blockade against Cuba will be supported once again by a majority, assured the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez. In spite of the fact that the United States tries to hinder this process and presented eight different amendments to the draft resolution that asks for the end of the blockade, in Thursday's session it is expected to carry out the vote that for 26 years has had the majority support of the international community, he explained.
I am sure the US representation will offer a speech attuned to its pressures to impose amendments which have no support among UN member states, the Cuban Foreign Minister added.
He also said he is convinced that the vote will throw overwhelming support in favor of Cuba's resolution.
I have an optimism based on the history of the 26 previous votes and on what I heard in the debate on Wednesday', the Minister stressed.
In the same way, he predicted that there will be a rejection of the American amendments which have no other purpose than to alter the content of the resolution and to obtain a pretext to continue tightening the blockade.
The United States continues to apply the same old policy, obsolete, criminal and genocidal, rooted in the Cold War, but the global consensus against the blockade is completely unanimous, stressed the Foreign Minister.
Several organizations such as the Group of 77 and China, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (MNOAL) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) took a clear stance against the U.S. blockade of Cuba in the General Assembly debate.
The G77+China regretted that the blockade imposed by the United States for almost six decades is still fully in force and even worsens. In addition, it referred to the negative effects of prolonged sanctions, which undermine Cuba's development potential.
For its part, MNOAL condemned the extraterritorial nature of the blockade and denounced the application of unilateral coercive measures as tools against States.
CELAC and CARICOM stressed that the blockade is the main obstacle to Cuba's development, and is a mechanism contrary to the desire for peace of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples.
