They also cover trade, especially facilities to the exports of Dominican tobacco to China and the beginning of the process so that other products from the Caribbean nation comply with sanitary and phytosanitary requirements. The agreements were signed in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Dominican Republic head of State, Danilo Medina, after their formal talks at the Great Hall of the People on issues of the bilateral and global agenda.
Earlier, the visiting president laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes and the Mausoleum where the remains of Mao Zedong, the leader of the Communist Party of China and founder of the country as a Republic in 1949, rest.
Also on Friday, Medina was received by Prime Minister Li Keqiang and the speaker of the National People's Congress, Li Zhanshu.
Medina arrived in Beijing on his first State visit after the establishment of diplomatic ties on May 1.
On Saturday, he will inaugurate his country's embassy in downtown Beijing, before traveling to Shanghai as a guest at the first China International Import Expo, at which the Dominican Republic will display a wide variety of products and services in an effort to encourage exports to this market and attract investments.
Medina is accompanied by ministers from his cabinet and by officials and businesspeople from sectors such as tourism, agriculture and duty-free zones, as these are the areas where the joint development of cooperation projects is foreseen.
In fact, during his stay, he will have contacts with representatives from both the public and private sectors in order to identify business opportunities under the principle of shared profits.
