Addis Ababa, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) The 11th extraordinary summit of the African Union (AU) on Wednesday opened its second working day in Addis Ababa, focusing on the institutional reform of the community bloc. The debates focus on the structure and competence of senior leaders, their election, and administrative and financial issues.
Moussa Faki Mahamat, chairperson of the AU Commission, noted that significant progress has been made to implement changes since they were started in January 2017.
'The rationalization of our working methods has resulted in greater efficiency to lead the AU affairs. The progress towards financial autonomy has established the conditions for greater appropriation of our policies and efforts,' Mahamat said.
The continuous improvement in the representation of young people and women will bring greater dynamism and innovation within the Commission and the organization in general; at the same time, it must be recognized that much remains to be done, the senior official stressed.
In his opinion, the 2063 Agenda, which serves as a guideline in this new phase of the Pan-African movement, requires to accelerate integration, and eradicate poverty and underdevelopment afflicting the population.
