'This is a mockery that the national government intends to charge more taxes to citizens and finance public education through small sum of money, when billions of pesos are lost annually in corruption that could be used to improve the universities,' Alex Florez, spokesman for Colombia's National Federation of Student Representatives, said.
Andres Gomez, spokesman of the National Union of Students in Higher Education, announced that the university strike will continue in December because there is no response to the request of a larger budget for public universities.
Students state that there is a historical deficit for higher education in Colombia that has led to a structural crisis in the public education system.
Bogota, Nov 30 (Prensa Latina) The national strike of students from public universities in Colombia marks Friday 50 days and is set to continue following disagreements in talks with the government.
