Luxembourg, Feb 11 (Prensa Latina) European Union (EU) negotiator for the Brexit, Michel Barnier, recalled Monday that only 46 days remain for the separation of the United Kingdom from the bloc, and he urged that country to clarify its intentions and plans.

According to the planned schedule, the exit of that nation from the EU alliance has a deadline on March 29, but the rejection of the House of Commons to the divorce agreement defended by the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, generated an impasse in the process and a great uncertainty about the possible outcome.

Barnier reiterated that the EU is not willing to renegotiate what was agreed in 2018, nor to modify the clause that establishes a contingency measure to avoid strong controls at the border with Ireland.

The proposal of the block provides that, if an effective solution to the boundary problem is not found, regulations will be established differently for Northern Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom, which is criticized by British supporters and detractors of the Brexit.

After a meeting in this capital with the Luxembourgish Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Barnier pointed out that the best way to avoid an exit without agreement is supporting that option and what is established in the pact signed by May and the 27.

However, Barnier stated that the EU can offer more explanations and guarantees on the subject in the political declaration that accompanies the agreement, which would mean postponing the finding of another alternative for the border issue.

The European negotiator demanded greater clarity in the arguments defended by the team of the conservative leader and affirmed that it corresponds to the British government to solve the internal differences and to obtain a consensus in the Parliament.
