Beijing, Mar 8 (Prensa Latina) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday outlined his country''s conflicts, challenges and other global concerns, as well as the development of international relations.
Wang told a press conference that China will keep diplomacy on the path of peace, in defense of national interests and world order, but without hegemonic pretentions.
'China will protect its rights and legitimate interests, and will not allow any infractions against its sovereignty and dignity (...) China's ideal and objective have always been interacting with other civilizations on the basis of mutual respect, living in peace and seeking beneficial cooperation with other countries,' Wang stressed.
The foreign minister assured that China will always reach fair conclusions on the bottom of every issue and will act within the framework of international law.
On the other hand, Wang defined multilateralism as the cornerstone of the international system, and repeated his government's willingness to safeguard it, along with the role of the United Nations as its core.
Regarding the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Wang called on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States to be patient, give in distrust and continue to be committed to concluding that process through political dialogue.
The head of Chinese diplomacy insisted on cooperation as the best tool to settle any differences between his government and the US administration, and called on Europe to boost an independent, consistent and prospective policy on China.
Wang lauded the good level of relations between China and Japan, the DPRK, India, Latin America and the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, Africa and Russia. On the latter, he noted that as long as Moscow and Beijing 'are together, the world will be a safer, more peaceful and more stable place'.
Regarding the Indian-Pakistani conflict and the crisis in Afghanistan, Wang urged all parties involved to abandon warmongering attitudes and to pave the way to reconciliation, peace, understanding and stability.
Among other issues, Wang noted that the situation in the South China Sea has improved and the talks on the Code of Conduct are expected to conclude in 2021. He added that only advice, not interference in the issue, will be accepted.
