Venezuela's Withdrawal from OAS Is a Victory, Expert Says

Caracas, Apr 29 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela is setting a precedent and a victory by denouncing the Organization of American States (OAS) with its withdrawal from that agency, Venezuelan lawyer Yarisma Perez said on Monday.

The country denounces that organization and resists two years of war, which has more repercussions for the integration of the agency than for the State itself, the analyst said during an interview with the program Al Aire, broadcast by Venezolana de Television.

'There is no isolation, Venezuela is establishing a precedent, the nation is so dignified that it should not remain seated at the OAS', she stressed.

Thanks to the leader of the Venezuelan Revolution, Hugo Chavez, there are some regional mechanisms beyond the United States for exchange among nations.

'Analysts with pro-American tendencies say that Venezuela will be isolated when in fact, the OAS is a tool that emerged to defend the unipolar world', she said.

Caracas confirmed its withdrawal from the organization on April 27 after the two regulatory years the Charter of the OAS grants to a member State to withdraw.

'No instrument signed and/or issued by the OAS will have legal or political effect in our country', Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza said.
