india alertaNew Delhi, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) Indian security forces are on high alert today in the capital in the face of the possible entry of nine terrorists who are planning to carry out bombings during the Independence Day celebrations.
Intelligence circulated a report on the entry to New Delhi of a group from Pakistan to carry out various attacks, said a source from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to India Today television.

CISF is a paramilitary unit responsible for ensuring the most important and strategic facilities in the country.

The issue was discussed during a meeting last Saturday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Home Affairs, attended by security institutions which since then are on high alert to monitor and deal with any situation.

Another high-ranking intelligence official refused to either corroborate or deny the information to India Today, although he admitted that on the occasion of August 15, Independence Day, numerous measures have been implemented.

Late last month three suspected separatists in military uniform opened fire on a bus, a residential complex and then attacked the Dinanagar police station in Gurdaspur district, near the border with Pakistan and the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

During the attack and subsequent siege of the police, three civilians and four policemen, besides the three assailants, were killed.

India said the terrorists crossed the border from the neighboring country and accused that government of supporting and financing the raid, which was denied by Islamabad.

New Delhi assures that the other country supports Islamic separatist militias operating in Jammu and Kashmir, the only state with a predominantly Muslim population.
