Japan to Grant Loan to Angola to Develop Power Sector

Luanda, Aug 9 (Prensa Latina) Japan will grant a 183-million-euro loan to Angola to carry out projects in the power sector, authorities informed.

The fund was agreed upon between the two governments with the signing of the so-called Exchanges of Notes regarding the granting of what will be the first Japanese credit to Angola.

According to the Angolan government, the loan will be granted through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in the framework of the reform of the power sector, jointly designed with the African Development Bank.

The JICA is the Japanese governing board in charge of implementing programs to support socio-economic growth and stability in developing countries.

A JICA delegation visited Luanda in January to hold working meetings with local authorities.

An Angola-Japan business forum was held here in March with participation of entrepreneurs from the two countries.

Diplomatic relations and cooperation between Angola and Japan started in September 1976.
